Oat Hay, CautionsOat hay can be a suitable component of a horse's diet if it is cut before the seed heads mature. The mature straw is hard to digest and offers little nutritional value. It often causes gas colic, which can become life threatening. Under certain growing conditions, oat hay may contain nitrates which are harmful to horses. See also Feeding and Nutrition; Hay |
